Let's Review

Personally, I don't write reviews but I do think they are fun to read and see what people have to say about the shows that I like to watch, so here are some reviews of some of the most popular drama television shows.
The number one rated drama television show has a 3.8 star rating from the 201 times that it has been rated. The first six reviews have all four or five star ratings and positive things to say like “ I like the edge”, or “Every episode introduces a new twist or a new set of circumstances that you had no idea was coming. The writing for this show is simply amazing.”
Then comes the two star review in which this person states that they don’t like it because “Too many characters, too many drawn out and obscure plots, moves along at a snail's pace. It might have been OK if the producers had condensed 24 episodes in each series down to 12 and got things moving a bit. All in all pretty dull fare.” Seeing that this number one rated television show also has quite a few bad ratings surprises me. I was not expecting to see that, but I guess some people really know what they like in their TV shows and don’t like anything but. http://www.rateitall.com/i-131350-lost.aspx
Grey’s Anatomy has now moved up to number two on the list of popularity. Grey’s has a 3.65 star rating from its 130 reviews. Of those 42 ratings only seven of them had a two star rating or below. The few people that gave it a bad review said that it was becoming more of a “soap opera.” The most recent review tells us “Grey’s anatomy is a GREAT tv drama, and is a show that anyone can enjoy. The simplicity of all the characters mixed with all of the intense medical drama and all of the complex relationships, with in watching only a few episodes, you will find your self commenting on how so-and-so did something with so-and-so, and be addicted like I was.” http://www.rateitall.com/i-729326-greys-anatomy.aspx Personally, I agree with this review because I love the relationship problems all tied in with the medical work problems. It fascinates me! I love watching Grey’s with my mom so she can explain all the medical stuff and then we can talk about it and how much sense everything made in that episode. Even when I call her during the week for something I always ask about the most recent episode.
Desperate Housewives has a 3.52 star rating as the average of the 215 times it had been rated. A recent review stated “Brilliant acting and even though the storylines are well "out there," they're so clever, the way everything works out and a lot of the time you're left thinking Oh my god I can’t believe that happened. The theme, the music, the suspense, the camera work, the edit..everything works!” I soooo agree with this review! I love the whole friend aspect of everything and that's what makes it so interesting to me. http://www.rateitall.com/i-112846-desperate-housewives.aspx

Crossover Drama

Recently, on ABC, they have had two of their major drama television series “crossover” with each other. For the last two weeks Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice have been in connection with each other making it a one two hour show instead of two one hour shows that have nothing to do with eachother. Dr. Shepherd from Grey’s Anatomy was called while he was getting ready to propose to Dr. Meredith Grey and was needed to perform surgery on his ex-wife’s brother who are both characters in Private Practice. Here is the re-cap of what the last two episodes had in store for us... “Derek is ready to propose to Meredith, but wants to wait until the right moment, because, as he tells Mark, "she spooks easily." Mark advises Derek to wait, Cristina tells him to keep it simple, while the Chief advises Derek to go all out. Derek is surprised when Meredith mentions how cute their kids will be, so he takes it as a sign he should go ahead and propose. Meredith finds Cristina in an on-call room, with Owen fast asleep. "He's planning to propose," she tells Meredith, but she's talking about Richard in the diary, not Derek. “You have been acting like a basket case," Meredith tells Derek as he prepares to leave the hospital for the day, "If you don't want babies or you don't want babies with my crappy DNA, just say so." "Meredith, I want your crappy babies, all of them," he tells her, but insists he has to go. With Mark's help, Derek has decorated their bedroom with dozens of roses, candles and teddy bears, but after he gets a call, thinks better of it. The only evidence of his romantic gesture: A single rose Meredith finds under her pillow.”
In the second episode of the crossovers Addison and her brother and friend show up. These three are the characters from Private Practice although Addison used to be on Grey’s Anatomy and then started up with her own show, Private Practice. “Addison arrives at Seattle Grace with her brother Archer, who's collapsed due to a parasite in his brain. Archer suffered a seizure during sex with his girlfriend, Naomi, who also happens to be Addison's best friend. Derek announces that surgery is not an option as Archer has eight cysts in his brain, any one of which could burst during surgery and kill him. Derek consults with the best doctors and they all agree the case is hopeless. Sam, Naomi's ex and a fellow doctor at the Wellness Center in LA, urges Derek to consider treating the cysts one by one. Derek decides it's doable and talks a reluctant Archer into having the surgery. Meanwhile, seeing all of Derek's old friends and hearing about how he sang and played guitar at his wedding to Addison makes Meredith realize there's a side of Derek she doesn't know at all.”

Private Practice--- >>>>> http://abc.go.com/primetime/privatepractice/index?pn=recap#t=132693

Personally, I think they are only doing this to get people to watch the two shows more , so that even after the whole crossover thing is done with, hopefully, people that didn’t watch one or the other of the shows before will watch both instead of just one of them to get their ratings up. After this thing is over, I still don’t think I will watch Private Practice because I don’t have the time. I haven’t really ever watched an episode and it is probably really good…but no time with all the homework!

History and such...

When we think of drama we think something bad is going to happen to something or someone in the show. On the contrary, drama can also be somewhat good for some people. Drama television brings emotion and conflict to our eye through the television. “Drama originally started in plays in the Renaissance by one of the world’s greatest playwrights William Shakespeare. From Hamlet to Romeo and Juliet, all of Shakespeare’s shows were full of drama and excitement. Drama is one of the oldest genres of TV shows in television. From Simon on Seventh Heaven to Buffy on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, dramas have a very wide range of characters. Drama television shows started in the 1940’s and they were a huge hit. The longest running drama TV show was a soap opera called Guiding Light. It first aired on June 30, 1952 and it is currently aired each weekday. Drama shows could be about family, animals, school and so much more. Also, dramas can be for viewers of all ages.” http://library.thinkquest.org/04apr/00328/dramajen.htm
The shows I like watch haven’t been around for that long of a time but they are widely know across the country. I think we like the drama television shows of today because they are upbeat and deal with things that we can relate to or would like to relate to in our lives today. Same as back then when drama television was first discovered; the shows back then had to deal with the things they could relate to also. The reason I like Grey’s because it is all about hospital drama which I find fascinating and the relationship drama which is always fun to watch and see how people deal. I love Desperate Housewives because it is about a group of friends and their problems which will relate to us all at some point in our lives. The Secret Life of an American Teenager is appealing because it is so real life and that could happen to anyone at that age and we enjoy crying and laughing at all the conflicts that happen. Drama TV can also teach us what to do if we are ever out in the scenarios that happen on television even though sometimes the ways to deal showed on TV are sometimes not right. I think it is pretty cool that drama has been around for that long. Drama television is probably the oldest type of TV entertainment because even cartoons had drama in them! More than 70 years being that the first full length movie was shown in 1915!

Celebs!

We all have our own thoughts of who the sexiest actor on television is. According to Hollywood Katherine Heigl of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy is considered one of them! She plays Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy and has been in 89 episodes. She has also played in many movies that I am sure most of us are familiar with. She has starred in 27 Dresses, Knocked Up, The Ringer, Wuthering Heights, Descendent and many more. A new movie she stars in comes out in July this year called The Ugly Truth which is about “a romantically challenged morning show producer (Heigl) is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent (Butler) to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love. His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result.” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1142988/plotsummary
Now who is the sexiest Drama television hunk you ask? That would have to be Patrick Dempsey, also a star of Grey’s Anatomy. He won this title in 2006 and in 2007. He has appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, as “McDreamy” or Dr. Derek Shepherd in 89 episodes throughout 2005-2009. He has also been in approximately 56 other movies or series. Some of them that we might be familiar with would be Made of Honor, Enchanted, Freedom Writers, Lucky 7, The Practice, Sweet Home Alabama, Will and Grace, Scream 3, and About a Boy. He has been nominated for two Golden Globes and has had another four wins and eight other nominations. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001131/

The sexiest high-fox factor comedienne in Hollywood is Eva Longoria Parker( Gabrielle Solis) of drama television show Desperate Housewives. She has appeared in 110 episodes throughout 2004-2009. She has been in 19 movies and/or television series including two that come out this year titled Foodfight! and an episode of Vecinos. She has also starred in Over Her Dead Body, The Heartbreak Kid, The Young and the Restless, and Lower Learning. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0519456/

Popularity

The most popular drama shows out there today are: Lost, Smallville, Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, House, Gossip Girl, Heroes, One Tree Hill, CSI, ER, Desperate Housewives, Fringe, Private Practice, and Skins. The top five highest rated drama shows would be : House, Heroes, Lost, Dexter and Monk.
Some of those shows I have never even heard of, so it is kind of weird that they are some of the most popular or highest rated. However, the show I am committed to, Grey’s Anatomy, is the third most popular and Desperate Housewives ranks at 11th most popular.
The most popular drama television series is Lost is rated 9.2 which beat out Smallville and Grey’s Anatomy at 9.0. “Lost is about how after Oceanic Air Flight 815 tears apart in mid-air and crashes on a Pacific island on September 22nd 2004, its survivors are forced to find inner strength they never knew they had in order to survive. But they discover that the island holds many secrets, including a mysterious smoke monster, polar bears, housing with electricity and hot & cold running water, a group of island residents known as "The Others," and a mysterious man named Jacob. The survivors also find signs of those who came to the island before them, including a 19th century sailing ship called The Black Rock and the ruins of an ancient statue, as well as bunkers belonging to the Dharma Initiative -- a group of scientific researchers who inhabited the island in the recent past.” http://www.tv.com/lost/show/24313/summary.html
The second most popular is Smallville. “Smallville tells the tale of a teenage Clark Kent in the days before he was Superman. It is the town where he came from where very strange things started happening with his arrival in a spaceship in the midst of a meteor storm of green rocks. Clark must deal with a variety of individuals given powers by the green rocks, keep his powers a secret, cope with his friendship with a young Lex Luthor, and balance the two girls in his life, Chloe and Lana. The show also shows us how Lex Luthor develops from a friend of Clark's and kinda-okay guy to (presumably) the villain who will plague Superman in his later years.” http://www.tv.com/smallville/show/1718/summary.html
--I don’t think I would be interested in either of these shows at all , but they are the two most popular shows so they must be good. I might have to watch an episode of each one to see how good they really are but then again I probably shouldn’t just in case I really do like them and become addicted like I am to Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and The Secret Life of an American Teenager.

Intro

Hi, my name is Lydia Bremmon and I am from Britton, South Dakota which is about 100 miles from here. I am a freshman here at Valley City State University. My planned major is elementary education. For this class ,I plan to blog about the different drama series on television. I have three different shows on television that I have to see every week. If I miss it the day it is on, I have to watch it the next day online. I'm not totally addicted like those people that drop everything to watch their shows but I could be considered somewhat addicted.
The three shows that I watch are: Desperate Housewives on Sunday, The Secret Life of an American Teenager on Mondays, and Grey's Anatomy on Thursdays. Desperate Housewives, on the ABC channel, is about a group of people and all the drama that goes on in their neighborhood. The Secret Life of an American Teenager on ABC Family is about this 15-year old girl who gets pregnant and Grey's Anatomy, which is also on ABC, is a show about doctors and all their drama that they go through with inside and outside of the hospital( Seattle Grace Hospital) in which they work at. So, pretty much for the rest of my blogs for this Communications class I will be blogging about different things that pertain to drama series on television.
