Popularity

The most popular drama shows out there today are: Lost, Smallville, Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, House, Gossip Girl, Heroes, One Tree Hill, CSI, ER, Desperate Housewives, Fringe, Private Practice, and Skins. The top five highest rated drama shows would be : House, Heroes, Lost, Dexter and Monk.
Some of those shows I have never even heard of, so it is kind of weird that they are some of the most popular or highest rated. However, the show I am committed to, Grey’s Anatomy, is the third most popular and Desperate Housewives ranks at 11th most popular.
The most popular drama television series is Lost is rated 9.2 which beat out Smallville and Grey’s Anatomy at 9.0. “Lost is about how after Oceanic Air Flight 815 tears apart in mid-air and crashes on a Pacific island on September 22nd 2004, its survivors are forced to find inner strength they never knew they had in order to survive. But they discover that the island holds many secrets, including a mysterious smoke monster, polar bears, housing with electricity and hot & cold running water, a group of island residents known as "The Others," and a mysterious man named Jacob. The survivors also find signs of those who came to the island before them, including a 19th century sailing ship called The Black Rock and the ruins of an ancient statue, as well as bunkers belonging to the Dharma Initiative -- a group of scientific researchers who inhabited the island in the recent past.” http://www.tv.com/lost/show/24313/summary.html
The second most popular is Smallville. “Smallville tells the tale of a teenage Clark Kent in the days before he was Superman. It is the town where he came from where very strange things started happening with his arrival in a spaceship in the midst of a meteor storm of green rocks. Clark must deal with a variety of individuals given powers by the green rocks, keep his powers a secret, cope with his friendship with a young Lex Luthor, and balance the two girls in his life, Chloe and Lana. The show also shows us how Lex Luthor develops from a friend of Clark's and kinda-okay guy to (presumably) the villain who will plague Superman in his later years.” http://www.tv.com/smallville/show/1718/summary.html
--I don’t think I would be interested in either of these shows at all , but they are the two most popular shows so they must be good. I might have to watch an episode of each one to see how good they really are but then again I probably shouldn’t just in case I really do like them and become addicted like I am to Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and The Secret Life of an American Teenager.

  1. Great information Lydia! I myself have never watched the show Lost, but I have heard from word of mouth that it is amazing. Grey’s anatomy is one of my favorite too! I enjoy watching the drama that these “everyday” doctors go through. I would have to say that my favorite show of all is One Tree Hill, I find myself getting so caught up in the drama going on, I do not move off my seat while it’s on, and I do not allow any talking during the show! At some points of the show it becomes so intense. I think you should watch all the seasons, it’s pretty realistic too.

  2. Hey Bremmdogg! I wrote my blog on a different genre of televsion shows, reality. I have never been addicted to a drama, but I think if I had enough time, that could easily be changed. Unlike you, I think the description you gave about Lost made it sound like a very interesting show. We should watch it together sometime and then you could blog your thoughts on it. I get caught up in reality television in the same ways as you do with drama television. I feel that with drama series its harder to get caught up with it if you haven't watched all the seasons, or at least every episode in the one that is playing. I think that part is different with reality TV, you can just watch an episode and easily get the hint of whats been going on.4

  3. Hey Lydia,
I really like your topic on drama series. My favorite shows is one that you had on your blog post called Heroes. I really like the TV show Heroes and I was wondering if you like it as well? I was interested that Lost beat out Grays’ Anatomy by point 2 in the ratings because I like Grays’ Anatomy way more then lost. Over all I like the popularity ratings.

I didnt know that you liked these shows! We can all watch them together now. :) It seems to me that they both be rather enticing. I have never really gotten in to a series like this before so I will have to check it out now! However I did get into the drama series The Secret Life of an American Teenager. And I found i have enjoyed real life series that are realistic.
